8. The Cass Pension Ordinance 1867.
Analysis. Preamble.
1. Sum to be paid to T. Cass, Esq.
2. Commencement and date of such payment.
3. Title.
Whereas Thomas Cass Esquire late Chief Surveyor of the Province of Canterbury on the Thirtieth day of November last resigned his office as such Surveyor which resignation has been accepted by the Superintendent of the said Province and whereas the said Thomas Cass has been in the public service of the Colony since the year One thousand eight hundred and forty-one and has
filled the office of Chief Surveyor of the Canterbury settlement since the year One thousand eight hundred and fifty-one and has by the integrity zeal and ability with which he has performed his duties conduced greatly to the public welfare And whereas it is desirable to grant to him a retiring pension as a special recognition
of his said services.
Be it therefore enacted by the Superintendent of the said Province with the
advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof as
follows:
1. Sum to be paid to T. Cass, Esq.
There shall be paid to the said Thomas Cass Esquire out of the Public
Revenues of the Province of Canterbury an annuity at the rate
of Four Hundred
Pounds sterling for the term of his natural life.
2. Commencement and date of such payment.
The said Annuity shall commence on the First day of March One thousand eight
hundred and sixty-seven and shall be payable quarterly
at the office of the
Provincial Treasury of the said Province on the last day of May the last day of
August the last day of November
and the last day of February in every
year.
3. Title.
The short title of this Ordinance shall be “The Cass Pension Ordinance
1867.”
Notes.
This Ordinance was passed by the Canterbury Provincial Council on the 3rd
January 1867, and assented to by the Superintendent on 9th January.
