19. The Municipal Council Amendment Ordinance 1865
Analysis. Preamble.
1. Repealing Clause.
2. Qualification of Voters.
3. Title.
Whereas it is expedient to make further provision than now exists for the
establishment of Municipal Councils under he provisions
of the “Municipal
Council Ordinance Session XIV. No. 2:”
Be it therefore enacted by the Superintendent of the said Province, with the
advice and consent of the Provincial Council thereof,
as follows:
1. Repealing Clause.
Section 10 of the said recited Ordinance shall be and the same is hereby
repealed.
2. Qualification of Voters.
In lieu of Section 10 above repealed be it enacted as follows: No person shall be capable of voting for the election of members or of being nominated or elected a member of any Municipal Council under the authority of this Ordinance who shall not have been a resident householder within the district and entitled to vote for the election of members for the Provincial Council for the district for the space of six months prior to his voting or nomination Provided always that this clause
shall only apply to the first elections of members of any Municipal Councils
or until a Ratepayers Roll shall have been compiled.
3. Title.
This Ordinance shall be entituled and may be cited as "The Municipal Council
Amendment Ordinance 1866.
