Attorney-General
LEGAL ADVICE
CONSISTENCY WITH THE NEW ZEALAND BILL OF RIGHTS ACT 1990
SENTENCING (OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN) AMENDMENT BILL (PCO13503/4.0) (4-1)
OUR REF: ATT395/89
I have reviewed this Bill for consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990. The Bill amends the Sentencing Act by inserting additional aggravating factors in cases involving violence against children.
The Bill raises no apparent issues under the Bill of Rights Act.
In accordance with Crown Law practice, this advice has been peer reviewed by Ben Keith, Crown Counsel.
Yours faithfully
Victoria Casey
Crown Counsel
