Nga Wai o Maniapoto (Waipa River) Bill
26 October 2010
ATTORNEY-GENERAL
Nga Wai o Maniapoto (Waipa River) Bill (PCO14798/1.6): Consistency with the New Zealand
Bill of Rights Act 1990
Our Ref: ATT395/150
1. I have reviewed this Bill for consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990.
2. The Bill extends the co-governance framework for the Waikato River (which includes part of the Waipa River from its junction with the Puniu River to its junction with the Waikato River) over the Waipa River from its source at Pekepeke Spring to its junction with the Puniu River and provides for Maniapoto to participate in that framework.
3. The Bill does not raise any apparent inconsistency with the Bill of Rights Act.
4. In accordance with Crown Law Office practice, this advice has been peer reviewed by
Victoria Casey, Crown Counsel. Yours sincerely
Robert Kirkness
Associate Crown Counsel
