Victims of Crime Reform Bill

8 August 2011 Attorney-General

Victims of Crime Reform Bill (PCO15105/12.0): Consistency with New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 Our Ref: ATT395/148

  1. I have reviewed the Victims of Crime Reform Bill for consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990. I conclude that the Bill is consistent with that Act.
  2. The Victims of Crime Reform Bill is an omnibus Bill that will enact changes to improve the status of victims of crime and strengthen their rights. The Bill enhances the information made available to victims, increases the obligations and accountability of agencies dealing with victims of crime and extends the involvement of victims in criminal justice processes, including extending the rights available to victims in the adult jurisdiction to matters which fall within the youth justice jurisdiction.
  3. In accordance with Crown Law protocol, this advice has been peer reviewed by Ian Carter, Crown Counsel.

Sarah McKenzie Crown Counsel
