Christian Churches New Zealand Property Trust Board Empowering Bill

11 September 2015

Hon Christopher Finlayson QC, Attorney-General

Consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990: Christian Churches New Zealand Property Trust Board Empowering Bill

  1. We have considered whether the Christian Churches New Zealand Property Trust Board Empowering Bill (‘the Bill’) is consistent with the rights and freedoms affirmed in the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990 (‘the Bill of Rights Act’). The Bill is a Private Bill in the name of Hon Dr Nick Smith and was introduced into the House of Representatives on 28 July 2015.
  2. The purpose of the Bill is to:
    1. transfer all of the existing property, interests, powers, and obligations of the old board (Associated Churches of Christ Church Extension and Property Trust Board) to the new board (Christian Churches New Zealand Property Trust Board); and
    2. dissolve the old board and remove it from the register of charitable trust boards under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957; and
    1. repeal the Associated Churches of Christ Church Property Act 1929.
  3. We have concluded that the Bill appears to be consistent with the rights and freedoms affirmed in the Bill of Rights Act.
