Consistency with the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990: Legislation
Bill
- We
have considered whether the Legislation Bill (‘the Bill’) is
consistent with the rights and freedoms affirmed in the
New Zealand Bill of
Rights Act 1990 (‘the Bill of Rights Act’).
- The
Bill rewrites and replaces the Legislation Act 2012 to implement reforms
relating to the production of high-quality legislation
that is easy to find,
use, and understand. For example, the Bill aims to enable easy access to
legislation in New Zealand for individuals
and businesses, and improve the
overview and enforcement of regulatory regimes, by expanding the content of the
New Zealand Legislation
website. The Bill also updates and re-enacts the
Interpretation Act 1999.
- We
have concluded that the Bill appears to be consistent with the rights and
freedoms affirmed in the Bill of Rights Act.
