Amendments: 1875, No 70: See s9 — Governor may grant lease to persons discovering gold on Native land.

1877, No 24: Minor amendment.

1878, No 24: Term "water-race" to include any artificial channel as well as natural bed of any river etc. through which water is conveyed for mining purposes.

1885, No 36: Main Act to apply to silver and other minerals.

  • s184: Governor may issue prospecting licenses for Native Land if there is the consent of the Native owner.
  • s185: Penalty for mining on Native Land without license.

Commentary: According to the Debates the bill was essentially the same as the 1871 Gold Mining Districts Act with the clauses rearranged for ease of understanding.
