Cultural Agreement between the Government of New Zealand .i" and the Government of the People's Republic of China / .  The Governmentof New Zealand and the Government of the People's Republic of China (hereinafter referredto as "the Parties"), WISHING to consolidate and strengthen the friendly ties between the two countries and reciprocal understanding betweentheir peoples, r" h CONSCIOUS of the desirability of promotingto the greatest possible extent the mutual knowledge and understanding of their respective cultures and intellectual and artistic achievements by way of friendly cooperation between their respective countries, Have agreed as follows:  Article 1 0bjective The objective of the Parties in concluding this Agreement is to broaden their knowledge of each other's civilisation and culture for the purpose of strengthening ties between their countries. Article 2 Fields of Cooperation The Parties shall encourage: (a) the study of the languages, literatfire, arts, culture and heritage, including those of indigenous groups, of each other's country; (b) the development of academic relations between their countries, including the exchange of study and lecture visits by specialists in relevant areas; (c) cooperation between museums, galleries, art centres, schools of art and performance, and any other institutions involved in promoting the objective of this Agreement; (d) cooperation in the field of literature and between libraries, including the exchange of books and other publications; (e) cooperation in the fields of press and publication, new media, broadcasting, film andtelevision; (f) contacts and cooperation between sporting organisations of the two countries;  (g) enhanced contacts between organisations and cooperation in the field of tourism between the two countries: (h) the sharing of experience and the exchange of information in the fields of arts, culture and cultural heritage; (i) the exchange of information concerning the management of archives and public records; and (j) any other forms of related cooperation as may be acceptable to the Parties or relevant institutions in both countries. l* Article 3 ImplementingArrangements , . For the purpose of implementing this Agreement, the Parties, or implementing agencies to be designated by the Parties, shall, as agreed upon from time to time by both Parties, enter into ImplementingArrangements for specific periods. Article 4 Levels of Cooperation The Parties shall encourage the establishment of contacts and cooperation at various levels, including between governmental agencies and institutions, nongovernmental institutions and organisations, and individuals in both countries in J the fields covered by this Agreement, and shall encourage non-governmental cultural exchanges between the two countries.  Article 5 Costs Responsibility for costs of cooperation activities shall be addressed in the ImplementingArrangements. Article 6 Disputes The Parties shall resolve any dispute or difference between them as to the interpretation and implementation of this Agreement amicably through consultation or negotiation between the Parties. Article 7 Amendments The Parties may amend this Agreement by an agreement between the Parties through an Exchange of Notes. Amendments shall enter into force on the date of receipt of the last Note. Article 8 Entry into Force This Agreement shall enter into force on the date of signature.  Article 9 Termination Either Party may terminate this Agreement at any time by giving six months' written notice to the other Party. Cooperation activities commenced under Implementing Arrangements before this notice is given shall continue unaffected by the termination of this Agreement until their completion.
